Expertise to support, supplement, or lead your Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) program

Organizations running NDT programs often face a common challenge: limited access to qualified Level III personnel. Some do not have Level III expertise in-house, while others have resources that are stretched too thin to meet the full scope of program requirements.

These gaps can create significant operational and compliance risk. During capital projects, turnarounds, audits, and program implementation, they can result in procedures that do not meet code requirements, inspection results that cannot be accepted, and increased compliance exposure.

The integrity of an inspection program also depends on the quality of its documentation. Outdated isometric drawings, inaccurate P&IDs, and drawings that don't reflect current field conditions create risk at every stage from inspection planning through to regulatory submission.

MISTRAS provides both certified Level III NDT services and specialist AutoCAD and drafting support through a single-source technical personnel solution. Whether you need a qualified Level III personnel to lead or supplement your program, or an experienced drafting team to create, revise, and manage inspection-critical documentation, MISTRAS has the capability to fill the gap.

MISTRAS provides certified Level III NDT services designed to fill that gap. Need a dedicated Level III to lead your program? A qualified resource for a specific turnaround or project? An independent expert to review and approve completed work? We can cover all of it. Our Level III personnel are certified in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A/CP-189, NAVSEA 271, and NAS 410. They can be appointed to represent clients across all Level III roles and responsibilities, from procedure development and personnel qualification through to code compliance and discrepancy resolution.

MISTRAS Level III services

Training and certification program development
MISTRAS Level IIIs develop and administer NDT training and certification programs tailored to the specific requirements of each client's operations, codes, and written practice. Services include instructor-led training, training material and examinations, written practice development aligned with client certification requirements, and procedure writing across applicable NDT methods. Whether implementing a program from scratch or updating an existing one to reflect current code requirements, all programs are structured around individual client needs.

Designation as representing Level III
MISTRAS Level III personnel can be formally appointed to represent clients in the full capacity of the Level III role. That means taking on the responsibilities and accountabilities the position requires across code compliance, specification compliance, consultation, and discrepancy resolution. This service applies across all NDT disciplines and is available for both ongoing program support and project-specific engagements. It is intended for clients who require a qualified Level III to fulfill the representative function without maintaining that resource in-house.

Radiographic image auditing and approval
MISTRAS provides in-person and remote auditing and approval of radiographic images, covering conventional film, digital radiographs, and computed radiographs. Remote approval capability allows clients to access qualified Level III reviews without requiring on-site presence, reducing response times and keeping inspection programs on track. In-person and remote auditing services also cover reporting, process management, and QA/QC functions across all disciplines of NDT.

Level III certifications

All MISTRAS Level III personnel hold certification in accordance with one or more of the following standards:

  • ASNT SNT-TC-1A / CP-189
  • NAVSEA 271
    NAS 410

AutoCAD & Drafting Services

Inspection programs are only as reliable as the drawings behind them. Outdated isometrics, inaccurate P&IDs, and drawings that don't reflect current field or process conditions create risk at every stage. This includes everything from planning through to regulatory submission. MISTRAS' drafting team provides specialist drawing creation, revision, and document management services. Our work focuses on the documentation that inspection and integrity programs depend on most.

Our team works in AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, MicroStation, Navisworks, and Adobe Acrobat. We also maintain an extensive block library to support efficient delivery across multiple disciplines and industries. All drawing outputs are produced to be inspection-ready. They are consistent with integrity management databases and plant condition management systems (PCMS).

MISTRAS creates and updates piping inspection isometrics to accurately reflect field conditions, equipment tags, line numbers, and CML point locations. Drawings are verified for alignment with inspection programs and revised as field conditions change. This ensures inspectors in the field are working from accurate, current documentation rather than drawings that no longer match the asset.

MISTRAS produces equipment inspection drawings for pressure vessels, horizontal and vertical drums, fin-fan exchangers, heat exchangers, and aboveground storage tanks. For storage tanks, drawings include both roof layout and shell rollout formats. The shell rollout presents the full tank wall as a flat plan, with every course, weld seam, nozzle, and CML position mapped and numbered. This provides inspectors with a complete spatial reference for the entire inspection scope in a single drawing.

MISTRAS redraws, revises, and manages P&IDs to reflect current process conditions. This includes correcting and standardizing tagging, symbology, and layer structure to improve accuracy and consistency. . A key service within P&ID work is circuitization. This process uses color-coding to group piping circuits by common corrosion environment.  Lines with similar damage mechanisms, operating conditions, and materials are grouped to create a direct visual link between the P&ID and the integrity program. This makes it significantly easier to identify inspection scope, assign risk, and demonstrate compliance. Drawings are produced ready for use in RBI programs and integrity management databases.

MISTRAS redraws and revises Process Flow Diagrams from hard copies, redlines, or existing digital files, including additions for heat and material balance (H&MB). PFD systemization applies color coding to reflect process groupings across the facility.

MISTRAS also develops Corrosion and Materials Diagrams (CMDs). These diagrams identify corrosion mechanisms, materials of construction, and active damage mechanisms directly on the PFD. The result is a facility-level view of integrity risk that feeds directly into RBI and inspection planning programs.
