PdM COE - On-line Vibration Monitoring
Continuous monitoring of machine vibration is desirable for many reasons. First of all, it can provide protection from catastrophic failure by alarming a Control Room or even shutting down a machine if the vibration level is destructive.
Second, on-line monitoring provides data for accurate and precise analysis and trending of the operating condition or health of your machines, which tells you when and where maintenance is necessary. The real advantage here is that it saves money in the long run by increasing machine reliability and production time, while lowering maintenance costs.
MISTRAS PdM Services will install complete on-line systems, made and guaranteed by our own Vibra•Metrics Division, including vibration sensors and local read-out meters and alarms at the machines (these also have outputs for frequency analysis to diagnose the problem) which are wired to your control room for trending and shutdown capabilities.
With the MISTRAS installation method, these monitors could also be used for periodic data collection similar to other walk-around PdM programs. Even if shutdown is not needed, often these sensors and monitors are installed because there is no access to the machine for portable instrumentation or it's unsafe for personnel to be nearby, yet a comprehensive PdM program utilizing vibration signature analysis and trending can be accomplished quite easily.
