The plant's capabilities include Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Penetrant Testing (PT), along with pre- and post-inspection solutions including machining, coordinate measurement, macro-etch, and polishing services. Using our multiple inspection and inspection-adjacent services, our highly skilled technicians and advanced machinery optimize production cycles and turnaround times.

Ellabell conducts pre-penetrant macro-etch services, which removes potential smeared metal due to machining to open potential flaws before a penetrant inspection takes place. The lab performs macro-etch inspections too, used to identify potential grain structure (metallurgical) defects that require further investigation. Our polishing services are used on parts that are too rough following the initial forging process to prepare them for ultrasonic inspection.

The lab also performs aerospace component measurement with a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), which measures the geometry of physical objects by using a probe to sense points on the object surface.

In 2022, the Ellabell plant implemented capabilities to machine forged discs to sonic shape. The machining process typically requires shipping parts to a third party, so conducting the service in-house reduces costs and optimizes multi-week lead times.
