RETAINING RING INSPECTION

Four methods are generally used when inspecting retaining rings:

 • Visual Testing
 • Liquid Penetrant Testing
 • Eddy Current
 • Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic testing is the only method that may be applied without removal of the retaining ring; however, its detection sensitivity is limited. Visual, eddy current and liquid penetrant methods can be applied after ring removal.
