Princeton Junction, NJ - May, 2011 - MISTRAS Group, Inc. has been honored by the Houston Business Roundtable with the Gold level of recognition for the HBR Safety Excellence Award. The award was presented to MISTRAS employees for work done at the BP Texas City facility.
The HBR Safety Excellence Award process is a six month long effort that begins with the nomination of the contractor from their client, the user of their services. Each nominee submits their OSHA required safety data regarding fatalities, lost workday cases, recordable injuries and illnesses, copies of their safety policies and procedures and documentation of their "best practices", before HBR implements a thorough field audit. Safety audits are conducted by teams of owner and contractor representatives at the Contractor's work site and site management and field employees are interviewed to verify that the written safety policies and procedures have been implemented at the work site. During the audit over 100 specific safety items are evaluated and rated.
"The selection process was a comprehensive and tedious time, but in the end it was worth it," said Geoffrey Bottego, Gulf Coast Regional Safety Manager for MISTRAS Services. "Every MISTRAS employee at the BP facility, along with our surrounding locations, had a part in making this happen. We are a company that works together and prides ourselves on following all safety procedures while always performing a thorough, high quality job."
MISTRAS became an associate member of HBR in 2009 and over the past year has continued to grow within the organization. This is the first Gold Safety Award earned by the organization.
"To be considered for an award of this caliber is significant enough, but to actually attain Gold level recognition, is a great honor," said Chris Smith, Group Corporate Compliance Office for MISTRAS. "I am proud of all the efforts made by the Houston area staff and the entire MISTRAS team. The receipt of these types of awards continues to drive home the importance of safety in all aspects of the work place and paves the way for MISTRAS to implement new and effective programs in order to strengthen our overall safety system."
