Princeton Junction, NJ – April, 2011 – MISTRAS Group, Inc. announces the receiving of the Division Manager’s Contractor Safety Excellence Award from Marathon Oil Corporation in Robinson, IL. The award was given to MISTRAS employees from the Robinson, IL lab, who have been working at the Marathon Plant since 1998.
The Marathon Safety award recognizes excellence in safety performance and attitude among contractors working at the plant in 2010. Each contractor is scored based on a safety criteria list comprised of participation in the behavioral based safety program, STEPS meetings, contractor safety council and daily toolbox topic meetings, as well as the amount of man hours worked without an incident. Other than MISTRAS, only 9 of the 45 onsite contractors received a passing score and were eligible for the award.

“It is an honor to be one of the 10 contractors given this prestigious award from Marathon Oil,” said John Smith, Midwest Regional Manager for MISTRAS Services. “Our team from the Robinson lab, as well as the entire MISTRAS family, has a strong safety culture that is exemplified by the top quality work performed at every job site. Through these efforts, we can continue to drive home the importance that MISTRAS puts on safety in and out of the work environment.”

Over the past year, MISTRAS has continued to thrive in the area of safety. They have been recognized for their ongoing efforts and successful performance ratings by many larger corporations including Chevron, Sunoco, BP and Tesoro.

“This award is another example of how MISTRAS employees across the country are stepping up to participate in our safety programs and subsequently improve our safety performance every day,” said Chris Smith, Group Vice President of Corporate Compliance for MISTRAS. “The many recognitions we receive annually are an obvious example of how our efforts are continuously being noticed and praised by many of our customers.”
