Princeton Junction, NJ – November 2007 – CONAM Inspection & Engineering Service announces the upgrading of their Auburn, Massachusetts facility’s in-house radiographic capabilities by installing a 4 Million Electron Volt (MEV) X-Ray Unit, augmenting Auburn’s other multiple High Energy X-Ray capabilities.
The 4 MEV Unit establishes CONAM Auburn as the premier provider of high energy X-Ray services in the Northeast. Lou Varady, General Manager of CONAM Auburn stated, “The 4 MEV is capable of penetrating 6 to 14 inches of steel much more rapidly than our other high energy units, with increased radiographic quality. With the addition of this unit, we now are capable of inspecting extremely thick components, especially very heavy wall castings. As a result of the investment our parent company MISTRAS has made in the unit, we look forward to servicing a much larger geography as we anticipate attracting inspection work from up and down the Eastern Seaboard and into the Midwest.”
This new unit adds to Auburn’s outstanding fleet of other High Energy units. Currently in operation are a 2 1/2 MEV unit that is capable of penetrating 2-8 inches of steel, a 2 MEV unit capable of 1-6 inch penetrations and a variable 1-2 MEV unit typically used on components with varying thicknesses up to 6 inches. “The addition of the 4 MEV Unit allows us to cover the entire range of our client’s needs and adds to our X-Ray flexibility,” stated Varady. “The key to success is our extremely dedicated staff of radiography experts with an average of over 20 years of experience. The combination of experienced employees and sophisticated technology allows us to deliver the highest quality radiograph in the most efficient manner. In short, it makes us more competitive while providing the highest attainable quality.”
This facility also specializes in low energy X-Ray, utilizing 250 to 450 Thousand Electron Volt (KEV) units for thinner materials ranging from 1/16 inches to 3 inches. Field applications are performed using a combination of Iridium, Cobalt and Selenium sources depending on the application.
