An FFS assessment is a multi-disciplinary engineering approach to determine if equipment is fit to continue operation for a desired future period. The equipment may contain flaws, have sustained damage, or have aged so that it cannot be evaluated by use of the original construction codes. API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 is a comprehensive, consensus industry recommended practice to analyze, evaluate, and monitor equipment for continued operation.
Completing this course will enable participants to apply FFS procedures in their daily work. The material presented in the course shows how the disciplines of stress analysis, materials engineering, and nondestructive testing interact and apply to FFS assessments.
This course has been developed based on API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, and is targeted at teaching how to conduct FFS assessments.

- Assessment of dents, gouges, and dentgouge combinations
- Assessment of laminations
At the end of the course, attendees will be able to:
- Conduct FFS assessments
- Apply the latest FFS technologies for making repair, replace, rerate & redesign decisions
The course includes a complete set of notes to supplement the recommended practice, and uses example problems to reinforce lesson objectives. Students are encouraged to bring their own copy of API 579-1/ASME FFS-1. The course also includes coffee each morning, breaks, and lunch for each attendee.
Who should attend?
The course is aimed at plant inspectors, plant engineers, non-destructive testing engineers, and materials and corrosion engineers responsible for managing the integrity of ageing process equipment, piping, boilers and storage tanks.
This course covers FFS assessments (for plant inspectors and engineers), in accordance with the 2007 edition of API 579-1/ASME FFS-1.
