SUBSTATION RELIABILITY OVERVIEW
Traditionally, condition assessments of power equipment have been performed following a schedule of applying a series of tests taking the unit out of service. However, reduction of maintenance budgets, requests for maintaining power equipment operating for longer periods of time is changing the maintenance from time-based to condition-based. In-service testing techniques provide information about the condition of the unit on-line and without disruption of its operating conditions.
Acoustic Emission ( AE), Gas in Oil Chromatography ( GIO), Vibration ( VA), Infrared Inspection ( IR), Oil quality tests are among the non-destructive techniques used for the condition assessment of power equipment.
