PdM COE - ROOT CAUSE ENGINEERING ANALYSIS
Recurring machinery problems requiring constant maintenance can be a major drain on your maintenance budget when parts wear out prematurely and manpower has to repair the same machine time and again. MISTRAS PdM Services are experts at finding the real source of that nagging problem utilizing many predictive and proactive technologies.
Especially useful is the Root Cause Engineering Analysis method of diagnosing the source of a problem by investigating the effects of possible failure modes which exist in the machine components. This method is also called Failure Modes Effects Analysis ( FMEA).
In other words, MISTRAS first looks at all the possible mechanical and operational causes of failure in the bearings, or coupling, or structure, etc. Our Engineers then determine what signals or modes would be generated prior to the failure in terms of acoustics, vibration, forces, temperature, wear particles, etc. Analysis of these signals produces specific signatures which then correlate the root cause of the problem to the failure. Maybe it's as simple as imbalance or misalignment, but often it uncovers more difficult problem sources like soft foot and resonance conditions, or component design flaws existing in the system.
Once the underlying problem is discovered, MISTRAS works with your personnel to determine a final maintenance solution so your machinery problem does not recur, saving you future downtime and maintenance costs. |
