MISTRAS Services specializes in providing Engineering services that work in concert with our Advanced and Traditional
NDT services and support our Risk Based Inspection software that is fully embedded in our
PCMS software in order to provide Total Plant or individual plant asset assessments. Finite Element Analysis and Fitness for Service calculations based on API 579 standards are used to determine the operating status of your assets with respect to run, replace or repair decisions. Fixed equipment mechanical engineering, pressure equipment rerates and fixed equipment mechanical engineering are all available through our engineering group.
As industry progresses into Risk Based mechanical integrity programs, the ability to inspect and evaluate individual assets or entire systems from a potential damage mechanism perspective becomes critical. Risk Based methodologies evaluate the consequences of a failure against the probability of failure. After assigning a value to each, the program then assigns a risk ranking to each piece of equipment. In order to determine the probability of failure the anticipated damage mechanism, the proper inspection technique to identify and quantify the potential damage, the minimum detectable defect size and probability of detection all must be taken into consideration.
MISTRAS' ability to "engineer" the inspection solution is dependent on the type of damage anticipated. After this has been determined our Advanced
NDT experts choose the appropriate advanced technique based on the minimum defect size that needs to be detected and the probability of detection using the chosen inspection technique. After thoroughly evaluating and accurately sizing the defect, this information is passed to our engineers for Fitness for Service evaluation. Based on their recommendation, the decision is made either to continue to operate the assett, replace the component or operate at a reduced capacity (mainly lowering operating pressure and/or temperatures).
MISTRAS is also capable of monitoring the questionable assets using "On-Line" monitoring techniques using a variety of parametrics including Acoustic Emission, Vibration, Weather, Strain Gauging and others to ensure the early detection of further damage propagation. All of this data is transmitted using a variety of configurations such as Local Area Networks (
LANs), Wide Area Networks via the Internet or in many cases we tie the data directly into the plant operational control room.
At MISTRAS, we engineer the appropriate inspection solution for our customers. Allow us to do the same for you.
